Update about Bernd Stange, Jürgen Klinsmann, Michael Weiß und Otto Pfister.
Bernd Stange is still national coach of Singapore. He receives credit for his work and is doing great on making soccer more popular in his second home. A few weeks ago his team played for the first time in the new National Stadium against Juventus Turin. According to Stange the main problem of the Philippines is that their players are non-professionals and that is why not enough money is invested in professional training or good infrastructure. After all his work is still successful and even the German Football Federation visited him for a short film. With his prize money Stange financed a tournament participation for the Singapore Cerebral Palsy Football Team, which is a team of handicapped sports athletes.
Former national coach of the Philippines, Michael Weiß, got dismissed in January 2014. He qualified surprisingly for the AFC Challenge Cup and helped the “Azkals” to reach a new level by signing German players with Philippine parents. Following this, he had a short engagement in Romania. Weiß used his prize money to give 250 footballs to teenagers in Cebu – all produced locally and therefore many jobs were generated.
Expert on Africa Otto Pfister was also nominated 2013. He is coaching African national teams and clubs for more than 40 years now. Currently he is head coach of the Sudanese club Al-Merrikh Khartum and supporting the Sudanese Football Federation a lot. 100 footballs could be delivered to children and teenagers – supported by the manufacturer of sports equipment Puma.
Last but not least we want to mention Jurgen Klinsmann, who played a great World Cup with his US boys and reached the round of 16 although their group was called the “Group of Death”. During the time in Brazil Klinsmann gained a new euphoria for football in the United States and now has even more responsibility because in addition to his job as the head coach he became Technical Director of the US Soccer Federation. Klinsmann supported the “Big Shoe Socccer” project with his prize money, whereby a lot of children during the World Cup in Brazil could undergo surgery. Meanwhile there is a sustainable cooperation between the German Football Ambassador and Big Shoe.
