The german coach has the chance to lead South Korea to their first Asia-Cup victory after 55 years.
ULI STIELIKE COULD WIN THE MOST IMPORTANT TITLE IN HIS COACHING CAREER
Uli Stielikes team will play in the final of the Asia-Cup in Sydney after beating Iraq 2:0 (1:0). Jeong-Hyeop Lee (20th minute) and Yong-Won Kim (50th) scored the goals that delighted South Korea’s fans. Its the first time since 55 years that they could win the Asian-Cup title.
When Uli Stielike was introduced in September 2014 as head coach of the South Korean national team, he got only one task: He should bring South Korea’s football back on track.
After the successful 2002 World Cup in their own country football boomed in South Korea. However, with the weak performance at the World Cup in Brazil, where they were eliminated without a win in the first round, the upturn experienced a major blow. Stielike took on a difficult, but also a very attractive task. The potential of South Koreas football is great.
“WE AREN’T THE FAVOURITES IN THE FINAL”
But it will not be easy to win the title. The opponent in the final on Saturday is the tournament host. Although South Korea defeated Australia 1:0 in the first round, Uli Stielike remains reserved: “We aren’t the favourites in the final”.
We wish good luck for Saturday’s game!
