“Football reflects a sense of solidarity both nationally and internationally; football knows only one language: together we are strong in the team. I am particularly honored to show and live this positive attitude to football in other nations as well,” says Bastian Schweinsteiger, winner 2017 and currently active at Chicago Fire in the USA. In 2018,11 active players in the “Players” category will also be available to vote online for the favorites. For the sixth time already, the winner will be chosen by the fans; the winners of the last years were Bastian Schweinsteiger (2017), Emre Can (2016), Mesut Özil (2015), André Schürrle (2014) and Sami Khedira (2013).

Ilkay Gündogan (Manchester City), Loris Karius (FC Liverpool), Sami Khedira (Juventus Turin),Toni Kroos (Real Madrid), Dzsenifer Marozsán (Olympique Lyon), Per Mertesacker (FC Arsenal),Lukas Podolski (Vissel Kobe), Antonio Rüdiger (FC Chelsea), Leroy Sané (Manchester City),Marc-André ter Stegen (FC Barcelona) und Amin Younes (Ajax Amsterdam).
The vote will start on 15 March and run until 26 April 2018. Participation is possible via the website (http://publikumspreis-2018.fussballbotschafter.de/en/) and the social networks of the German football ambassador. All users can participate in the competition and win exciting prizes. The 11 nominees are concerned with the commitment on and off the pitch, and the social-social component is also included – the awards of the German Football Ambassador e.V. are linked to the support of social projects. In this way, more than 20 football projects in 16 countries worldwide have already been funded. Roland Bischof, founder of the German football ambassador: “It is unique to see the radiance emanating from German players abroad. Both on and off the seat, our nominees take on an exemplary role”. The winner in the “Player 2018” category will be awarded together with the main and honorary award winners at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin at the beginning of May.
