Originating from a press conference for disadvantaged children the project has become so successful that further actions, events and a football club could be established. Experience-pedagogical influences are intended to awaken extraordinary emotions and to help develop personality and social skills. The focus is on building a positive sense of self-esteem.

The project, which was also awarded by Federal President Joachim Gauck with the “great Star of sport” in gold, is now widespread and its own “Banana flank leagues” were founded. Across the country, clubs have been created that run under the name Banana flank, such as the “Banana flank Berlin e.v.” and participate in the game operation in their region.
