Fans vote for Robin Gosens ahead of Dzsenifer Marozsán and Toni Kroos. This makes Gosens the successor of Marc-André ter Stegen.
Robin Gosens is the winner of the public vote for the “German Football Ambassador 2020”. In an online voting, the 25-year-old professional from the current Champions League quarter-finalist Atalanta Bergamo prevailed over German national player Dzsenifer Marozsán (Olympique Lyon) and world champion Toni Kroos (Real Madrid). Gosens will thus succeed national goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen.
In a selection of eleven German professionals playing abroad nominated by a jury, Ann-Katrin Berger, who is under contract to Chelsea FC, finished an outstanding fifth, just ahead of Leroy Sané of Manchester City.
Final result:
1. Robin Gosens (Atalanta Bergamo)
2. Dzsenifer Marozsán (Olympique Lyon)
3. Toni Kroos (Real Madrid)
4. Lukas Podolski (Antalyaspor)
5. Ann-Katrin Berger (Chelsea FC)
6. Leroy Sané (Manchester City)
7. Antonio Rüdiger (Chelsea FC)
8. Benedikt Höwedes (FC Lokomotiv Moscow)
9. Marko Marin (Al-Ahli Dschidda SC)
10. Pascal Gross (Brighton & Hove Albion)
11. Thilo Kehrer (Paris Saint-Germain)
“We will present the award at a later date, as our award ceremony, originally planned for next week, unfortunately had to be cancelled,” said Roland Bischof, President of the non-profit association German Football Ambassador.
Robin Gosens, who is now succeeding last year’s winner Marc-André ter Stegen, was delighted with the result: “I am tremendously happy about this award and see it as a reward for the development I have made, especially this season.
This award is very special to me and makes me very proud because it is an award that is only chosen by the public. If you then prevail against such renowned colleagues, it might mean that some people consider me to be cool and appreciate how I present myself as a person and what I achieve on the pitch. That is why I see the award as motivation to continue on the same path. Thank you very much to everyone who voted for me; it means so much to me.”
