Robin Gosens, winner of the German Football Ambassador Public Award 2020, supports the new Plan International project - “Protecting people from climate change” in Zambia.
Robin Gosens of Atalanta Bergamo is the winner of the public vote 2020 and now succeeds Marc-André ter Stegen as German Football Ambassador. In a public online vote, the 26-year-old professional received the most votes and was visibly moved after the final result was announced in May: “I am gigantically happy about this award because it comes from the football fans,” said Gosens about the result. “With the prize money, I support the Plan International project in Zambia, which combines two matters close to my heart: Children’s rights and sustainability. In this African country, climate change is already having devastating consequences: prolonged droughts or heavier rainfall destroy crops and deprive people of their livelihoods. One of the consequences is that children are malnourished and often girls in particular, like my godchild Ireen, can no longer go to school because they have to look after their siblings or even contribute to the family income themselves. To prevent this, the project helps to provide local people with a better livelihood – even in times of crisis,” Robin Gosens explains his decision.
