- Ralf Rangnick is German Football Ambassador 2024
- Award presentation took place during the training of the Austrian national team
- Two current DFB national team players among the nominees for the Audience Award
Ralf Rangnick, national coach of Austria, was elected German Football Ambassador 2024 in the “Coach” category, succeeding football pioneer Margret Kratz.
A high-calibre jury – consisting of Doris Fitschen, Horst Hrubesch, Lutz Pfannenstiel, Martin Schäfer as a representative of the Federal Foreign Office and the last German European champion coach Berti Vogts – honoured the work of Ralf Rangnick, who is currently also causing a sensation at Euro 2024 as group winner over France, the Netherlands and Poland.
Rangnick’s coaching career began with several clubs in Germany (including Stuttgart, Hannover, Leipzig, Schalke and Hoffenheim). This was followed by the development of Red Bull’s global football programme with stops in Salzburg and New York, among others. Via Lok Moscow and Manchester United, he reached his current position as a successful national coach in Austria. During this “journey”, he collected championship titles and cup wins. The fact that Rangnick has been involved with his own foundation for children for eight years, particularly in the field of education, was also relevant for the award as German Football Ambassador.
Roland Bischof, President of Deutscher Fussball-Botschafter e.V., presented Ralf Rangnick with his award during a European Championship training session for the Austrian national team with words of appreciation for his many years of achievements on and off the football pitch.
Ralf Rangnick was visibly delighted with the recognition of his international activities and thanked him warmly before calling his players to a training session with a view to the round of 16 against Turkey.
The German Football Ambassadors Association also launched the online voting for the Public Award, in which football fans can vote until 7 July to decide on the ambassador award for players abroad. The five nominees for 2024 include Ann-Katrin Berger (Gotham City FC), Thilo Kehrer (AS Monaco) and Julian Draxler (Al-Ahli SC) as well as the two current national team players and Champions League winners Toni Kroos and Antonio Rüdiger from Real Madrid. This online vote is about the successor to last year’s winner Dzsenifer Marozsán (Olympique Lyon).
