Since 2013, the German Football Ambassador has nominated German coaches for their sporting and social commitment abroad. The visit of the national coach of Mongolia, Michael Weiss, is the second stop on the nomination journey of the non-profit association, whose president Roland Bischof hands over the nomination certificate to him on site. The handover took place in Ulan-Bator as part of the U23 qualifying tournament for the Asian Cup 2020, in which Michael Weiss introduces his young team to international football. His nomination was highly esteemed in Mongolia. Among the numerous congratulators were Buman-Uchral Bold, Vice President of the Mongolian Football Association, Stefan Duppel, German Ambassador and Michael Heinst from the Goethe-Institut.
“I am very pleased that Michael Weiss has been nominated as “German Football Ambassador 2019″. With him, our Mongolian national team won the first round of the EAFF Championship. And I believe he will do more for Mongolian football. For that I thank him.”, says Vice-President of the Mongolian Football Federation Buman-Uchral Bold.
The graduate sports scientist and A-license coach Michael Weiss and his national team have ignited the football fire in the Mongols. Over 2000 people are now coming into the stadium to cheer on their national team. The general conditions are very unusual: the second largest inland country in the world is over four times as big as Germany and has fewer inhabitants than Berlin!
Michael Weiss has worked as a goalkeeper coach for Manchester United, FC Arsenal, Real Madrid and others and has been working abroad continuously for about 20 years now. Japan, China, Rwanda and the Philippines were his most important stations before he became Mongolia’s national coach.

Weiss was delighted about his renewed nomination (he had already been nominated in the starting year together with Jürgen Klinsmann and the later winner Holger Obermann). His prize money goes to the U16 Youth Academy of the association for the equipment of football players.
