Award for football coach Bernd Stange by the Initiative GERMAN FOOTBALL AMBASSADOR with prize money going to the Singapore Cerebral Palsy Football Teams.
Singapore/Berlin – Bernd Stange was honored as a nominee for the “German Football Ambassador 2013” award. The initiative by the same name honors German coaches and players abroad who contribute, through their sporting and social engagement, to a positive reputation of Germany. The award is tied to supporting a charitable organization and Bernd Stange has opted to give his prize money to the Singapore Cerebral Palsy Football Team.
The initiative was founded in 2011 by Roland Bischof and is chaired under the auspices of legendary German soccer coach Rudi Gutendorf and recently honored the winners in a ceremony in Nuremberg, Germany. Bernd Stange received his award as a nominee, which will be presented to him now in Singapore.
Bernd Stange, honored with the “Presidential FIFA Award” has been national team coach for many years in as diverse places as Irak, Oman and Belarus.
With his prize money, Bernd Stange will support the Singapore Cerebral Palsy Football Team, which makes it possible for mobility impaired people to enjoy playing football.
He commented on his award: “I feel extremely honoured to have been nominated for the prestigious German Football Ambassador Award. It reflects the recognition of my work in a diverse set of countries and environments by the German football community. Besides aiming for success on the pitch my activities have also always been based on higher values and broader purposes. Saying that, the donation of my award prize to the Cerebral Palsy Team of Singapore is linked to the National Team being a role model and a major driver in the development of football of any level in Singapore.”
Roland Bischof: “We hope that through our initiative, we will also obtain a greater awareness in these charitable projects in Germany. I was impressed with what I have seen personally regarding the efforts of these projects.
A prominent board and a top-class jury (German player legend Uwe Seeler, Kicker Magazine publisher Rainer Holzschuh, female world champion player Doris Fitschen, player on five continents Lutz Pfannenstiel and actor Peter Lohmeyer) nominated German trainers who stand out with their sporting and social commitments abroad. Apart from Jürgen Klinsmann, who accepted his award recently prior to the game USA vs Germany in Washington, coaches Otto Pfister and Michael Weiß have also been rewarded as nominees for “German Football Ambassador 2013“.
The award winner, Holger Obermann (“GERMAN FOOTBALL AMBASSADOR 2013”), coaching legend Dietmar Cramer (Lifetime Achievement Award) and Sami Khedira, Player at Real Mardid (Player Award by public voting), were previously honored in a ceremony in Germany in May.
