The President of the German Football Ambassador e.V., Roland Bischof, visited the German national goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen during the international match break for the official handover of his award. ter Stegen, who only recently played his 200th match for FC Barcelona, was delighted with the choice of the fans: “Winning the public award of the German Football Ambassador means a lot to me and is both appreciation and motivation for me. Thank you very much for the prize and the fantastic support I have received over the last few years”.
The award is associated with the support of a social purpose – the award winner chose the Pare Manel Foundation in Barcelona.
Already in May tens of thousands of fans voted their winner in the category Public Award at the public voting of the German Football Ambassador e.V.. Marc-André ter Stegen won ahead of Julian Gressel (Atlanta United) and Leroy Sané (Manchester City). Since the FC Barcelona season was still running at the time of the award ceremony, which like every year took place at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin, he could only participate by video message.
During the tour of international matches, R. Bischof handed over the prize in person, praising the winner: “Marc-André ter Stegen not only convinces with constant first-class performances at FC Barcelona matches every week, but also contributes to the positive image of Germany among the fans through his behaviour next to the pitch. He is a worthy winner!
The social project selected and supported by ter Stegen, the Pare Manel Foundation, supports projects to strengthen the rights and living conditions of people who are excluded and socially disadvantaged. The Foundation’s activities focus on children, young people and the development and strengthening of society.
In the other categories, Jürgen Klopp and Bernd Schuster won the German Football Ambassador 2019.
