Our first German Football Ambassador, Holger Obermann, passed away unexpectedly on 30.10.2021.

He was one of the pioneers of German coaches abroad and contributed his soccer knowledge in many countries during the last decades. Cameroon, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, East Timor, Gambia, Malaysia or Australia were just a few of his stops. It was him who, almost twenty years ago, paved the way for women’s soccer in Afghanistan. Besides this important milestone, his great passion, however, has always been Nepal. When he was the first to win the German Football Ambassador Award in 2013, he chose Nepal as the destination for his prize money. It was the starting signal for a social project that he built up over the last few years with many supporters. During this time, we were able to get to know him as an incredibly empathetic and caring person, who was especially passionate about helping the weak and disadvantaged in poorer countries.

“The smile in a child’s eyes is the greatest award”, he said at the award ceremony in Nuremberg.
