Doris Fitschen has passed away at the age of 56
With great sadness and deep sorrow, we bid farewell to our jury member Doris Fitschen, who passed away on March 15, 2025, after a severe illness at the age of just 56.
Doris was not only an outstanding figure in German football but also a valued member of our Football Ambassador family. From the very beginning, she was a trusted companion and friend to us. With her expertise, passion, and warm personality, she played a significant role in shaping our initiative. Our deepest condolences go out to her family and friends.
For many years, Doris was one of the defining figures in German women’s football. As a player, she earned 144 caps for the German national team and won four European Championships.
But her success was not limited to the international stage – she also left a lasting impact on club football, winning multiple German Championships and DFB CupTitleswith TSV Siegen and 1. FFC Frankfurt.
Even after her playing career, she remained tirelessly committed to women’s football, serving the DFB both as manager of the national team and later as General Coordinator for Women’s Football.
With her empathy, optimism, and clear vision, she inspired generations and helped shape women’s football in Germany at all levels. She was not only an exceptional athlete and leader but, above all, a remarkable human being.
