Three weeks after receiving the „German Football Ambassador 2016“ award, Gernot Rohr returns to Burkina Faso to donate his prize money.
On the 11th of May Gernot Rohr received the “German Football Ambassador 2016” award. The award ceremony took place in the Foreign Office in Berlin in presence of the German and French Foreign Ministers Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Jean-Marc Ayrault.
Three weeks later Mr. Rohr returned to Burkina Faso, where he worked as the national football coach till 2015. Thanks to the support of Mr. Richard Tiené and the German Ambassy, he managed to submit the prize money and other donations to the president of the FUGEBO Academy Mr Kouate during a football tournament in Stade Municipal.
Many teams and football academies from the region around the capital city Ouagadougou participated in the tournament. The FOGEBU-Academy reached the finals where they won the tournament by defeating their opponents with 1:0. Mr. Rohr’s social engagement in Burkina Faso is a great example of partnership between the award winners and our initiative. We are looking forward to further cooperation with our upcoming nominees and award winners.
