AWARD WINNERS 2022
FRANZ BECKENBAUER, JOCHEN FIGGE AND İLKAY GÜNDOĞAN

This year’s 10th anniversary of the award ceremony of the non-profit association Deutscher Fußball Botschafter e.V. (German Football Ambassador) was once again celebrated with numerous celebrities at the Federal Foreign Office. The first award of the evening went to Ilkay Gündogan of Manchester City (2022 Public Award). The Honorary Award then went to the legend Franz Beckenbauer, who was honoured for his lifetime achievement. In the final main category, Jochen Figge, who worked abroad for forty years, prevailed over the former coach of the Austrian national team Franco Foda, as well as the coach Dr Carolin Braun, who previously worked in Botswana.

AWARD WINNERS 2021
ULI STIELIKE, KAI HAVERTZ & FC BAYERN MUNICH

At this year’s Award ceremony, which was opened by the host of Deutsche Telekom AG’s capital city representative office Michael Hagspihl, Uli Stielike came out on top in the main category against former Orlando Pirates (South Africa) coach Joe Zinnbauer and Selangor FC’s Malaysian-based sports director Michael Feichtenbeiner. Kai Havertz from Chelsea FC won the public award, which was determined by the fans via online voting. FC Bayern Munich was the first club to win the award in the category Honorary Award, which Karl-Heinz Rummenigge received on behalf of the club.

ANJA ZIVKOVIC, ROBIN GOSENS, LEON GORETZKA & JOSHUA KIMMICH

Unfortunately, the award ceremony could not take place at the Federal Foreign Office this year due to Corona. The winners Anja Zivkovic (main award), Robin Gosens (public award) and Leon Goretzka & Joshua Kimmich (honorary award) sent greetings to the fans of the German Football Ambassadors.

 
 
 
 
 
 
 

AWARD WINNERS 2019
JÜRGEN KLOPP, MARC-ANDRÉ TER STEGEN & BERND SCHUSTER

At this year’s award ceremony of the German Football Ambassador, FC Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp beat Mongolian national coach Michael Weiß and Petra Landers, who is engaged in Zambia, in the main category. Marc-André ter Stegen from FC Barcelona won the audience award in an exciting finish ahead of Julian Gressel from Atlanta United and Leroy Sané from Manchester City. Several tens of thousands of fans voted for him in an online voting. The “blonde angel” Bernd Schuster received the honorary prize.

GERT ENGELS, LORIS KARIUS & OTTO PFISTER

On 8 May 2018, the German Football Ambassador e.V. honoured German football coaches, players and idols at the Federal Foreign Office who contribute to the positive image of football and Germany abroad through their sporting and social commitment. Foreign Minister Heiko Maas and initiator of the Football Ambassador, Roland Bischof, welcomed some 200 guests from the worlds of politics, sport and business.

HORST KRIETE, MIROSLAV KLOSE & BASTIAN SCHWEINSTEIGER

For the fifth time, the German Football Ambassador honoured German coaches and players for their sporting and social commitment abroad. During the anniversary event at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin, Horst Kriete (category “Coaches”), Bastian Schweinsteiger (category “Players”) and Miroslav Klose (prize of honour) were honoured. The three prize winners have contributed in a special way to Germany’s reputation in the world and have had a lasting impact on its image. GERNOT ROHR, EMRE CAN & KARL-HEINZ SCHNELLINGER

The award ceremony of the GERMAN FOOTBALL AMBASSADOR held some exciting surprises for the visitors at the Foreign Office in Berlin. Right on time with the upcoming European Championship in France the award “German Football Ambassador 2016” was granted to the France expert Gernot Rohr by the German and French Foreign Ministers Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Jean-Marc Ayrault.

Emotions, surprises and interesting facts about football were guaranteed in the third award ceremony of the initiative German Football Ambassador.

MONIKA STAAB & ANDRÉ SCHÜRRLE

The second award ceremony “GERMAN FOOTBALL AMBASSADOR” ​​on 5th of May 2014 at the Foreign Office in Berlin caused many emotions, surprises and was a little warm-up to the  2014 World Cup.

In the presence of Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Monika Staab (women’s national coach of Qatar), Andre Schürrle (Chelsea FC) and Rudi Gutendorf, were awarded for their sporting and social engagement abroad as well as for their roles as football ambassadors.

Holger Obermann (main award)

Since 1975, Obermann has been an advisor for more than 30 projects organized by the National Olympic Committee, the German Federal Government, the German Football Association and FIFA. He received the German Federal Cross of Merit and a special Medal of Honor awarded by the King of Nepal.
