Moving award: 15 years ambassador of German football
Moving life: Bringing children and young people to football
The German Football Ambassador e.V. (FuBo) nominated as the second of three in the category “Trainer” 2018, Ernst Middendorp, in Germany known above all as the coach of the century by Arminia Bielefeld, for his extraordinary social and sporting commitment abroad. Today’s technical director of the Thai first division team True Bangkok United FC will be honoured by FuBo founder Roland Bischof in the presence of representatives of his Thai League club, the German Embassy and the Goethe Institute on February 17th, 2018.
“His commitment and the positive image of Germany that characterizes Ernst Middendorp around the world was the reason why our jury nominated him in the” Coach “category in 2018.” Explained Roland Bischof.
Ernst Middendorp has always attached great importance to a holistic approach to the further development of football. In addition to sports, social and societal aspects also play a major role as well as the promotion of young talent. The BCC School of Bangkok will also be visited during the nomination trip. Middendorp supports this project with its earmarked prize money, which introduces children and young people to football and a life full of movement.
“It is a huge honor to have been recognized and shortlisted for the German Football Ambassador’s award 2018. Over the last 18 years, I have worked with many young men from different countries in Europe, Asia and Africa and watched them progress into successful professionals. Not only players, but also coaches and other technical team members with whom I proudly shared the principles of German soccer. I am known for sharing knowledge openly and generously because it is the most important thing for me to see people grow as individuals and professionals”, says Ernst Middendorp.
In 2000, the football expert moved to Ghana for the first time and won the league cup with his team. This was followed by further stops in Iran, Cyprus, China and South Africa. Middendorp continues to have a very close relationship with South Africa. Between 2011 and 2016, he coached various clubs and can now look back on more than 200 games in the Premier Soccer League South Africa.
For the sixth time now, the German Football Ambassador e.V. is awarding the awards in three categories to German coaches and players who contribute to Germany’s positive reputation abroad. This year’s award ceremony will take place at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin at the beginning of May.
